Regional Fire Communications Centers (NH)

NH Regional Fire Communications Centers

A vast majority of fire departments in New Hampshire operate as on-call or volunteer services. Due in part to the state's rural geography and the allocation of public-safety resources, New Hampshire utilizes several regional communications centers that provide fire and emergency medical dispatch services for multiple municipalities and public-safety agencies. These communications centers generally do not answer 9-1-1 calls. Instead, 9-1-1 calls originating within New Hampshire are routed through the state's two Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), located in Concord and Laconia. PSAP call-takers obtain the necessary information from the caller and, when appropriate, transfer the call or relay the information to the regional communications center or other agency responsible for dispatching the incident.

Below are descriptions of the Regional Fire and EMS Communications Centers. Many New Hampshire fire departments dispatch for themselves and/or serve as regional communications centers for other departments in their area. Departments that are not routinely dispatched by one of these regional centers may nevertheless have an assigned radio identifier or unit prefix when operating on regional systems or participating in mutual-aid incidents.

Seacoast/Rockingham County Fire

Seacoast Fire, AKA "Rock Fire" is dispatched by the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office in Brentwood, NH. A select few departments (like Raymond) operate their own communications centers but dispatch themselves over the Rock Fire channel.

Individual unit call signs have almost all transitioned away from a numerical prefix and start with the department name. I.e. "Greenfield Engine 1."

See the Rockingham County Database page for more information.

Southwest New Hampshire Fire Mutual Aid (SWNHFMA) - Keene, NH

Regional Fire Communications Center located in Keene, NH. Dispatches for dozens of Fire Departments in NH and VT and coordinates Mutual Aid into MA and the surrounding area. Units will transmit their callsign with a numerical prefix followed by their title. I.e. "1 Engine 1." Dispatch will identify as the last three numbers in the FCC Callsign for the respective frequency. I.e. 154.4300 KCF415, SWNHFMA dispatch is "415."
